After the initial assessment of the tooth and if the remaining tooth is considered suitable for a root canal treatment, the decay is removed mechanically and accompanied with irrigant solutions to clean and disinfect the canals followed by placement of filling materials to seal the canals. This is usually performed over two to three visits.
