The twenty-first century has brought with it a plethora of technological advances, and advanced cameras in smartphones is one of them! Suddenly, we are able to take half decent photographs of our friends, family, and ourselves. People soon realised that when they smile their teeth are a prominent feature of their faces. Teeth whitening and straight teeth were suddenly in high demand. Now everywhere you look there seem to be people with perfect teeth. All this technology has also benefited the dental industry and as dentists we are able to use technology, our training, skills, and experience to help achieve that perfect smile. At The Dental Retreat we have helped many patients to be able to produce that all important confident smile using Invisalign Macleod.

Not only for cosmetic benefits!

Misaligned teeth can cause a number of problems including tooth decay and gum disease. This can result in not being able to brush and floss your teeth properly, causing bad breath. Adults who never had the opportunity to have their dental misalignment condition corrected were reluctant to wear the cumbersome metal braces that were available. New technology has made it possible to wear a new type of misalignment appliance called an aligner which Invisalign Macleod refers to as a ‘tray’. This appliance is made from a clear thermoplastic which makes it unobtrusive, unlike the metal braces of the past. This appliance resembles a gum shield and fits over your teeth.

Children

If you have children you owe it to them to help them if they have misaligned teeth. The earlier they are seen by our dental team, the better. The ideal age to introduce them to dental misalignment treatment is between seven and ten years of age.

Technology creating a convenient solution

The technology that accompanies Invisalign Macleod allows us to take thousands of images of the inside of your mouth and then, using the latest software, we are able to produce a virtual image for you to view. This image will show you what your smile can look like when you have completed the treatment. This technology was not available in the past and being able to see the results of the treatment before starting gives patients a psychological boost.

Digital efficiency

Using digital technology allows us to use highly accurate imagery to create a digital mould of your mouth. This is sent digitally to the laboratory which means that it is quick and any adjustments can be done digitally. The laboratory creates a series of trays based on the results of your examination and your condition. Each tray is designed to move your teeth a certain distance before the next in the series is deployed. Each tray is designed slightly differently. Another advantage of these trays is that they can be removed to allow you to eat and drink as well as brush and floss your teeth. You are required to wear each tray for at least twenty two hours and for around two to three weeks.

Duration and completion

The duration of the treatment depends on your dental condition and will take from six months to twenty four months. Once the treatment is complete, it will be necessary to wear a final retainer to hold your teeth in their new position. You will however be able to remove the retainer and show the world what a beautiful smile you now have. At The Dental Retreat we are proud of the joy and relief that we have been privileged to bring to our patients which is always rewarded with their broad smile.
