Teeth whitening Macleod with hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide
Teeth whitening Macleod is one of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments, with nearly a quarter of adults whitening their teeth either with a home kit or at the dental practice. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth and are embarrassed by their colour then you need to speak to our dentist and find out about teeth whitening Macleod.
Teeth whitening Macleod is safe and effective when carried out or prescribed by our dentist. There are teeth whitening toothpastes available at the supermarket and using these on a regular basis can also help prevent your teeth from becoming yellow and stained. They are composed of abrasive ingredients that help scrub away stains. Maintaining good dental hygiene practices is the most effective way of maintaining your pearly whites but with time and age, stain molecules can build up on the surface of the teeth and hide the white enamel underneath. Plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth and make them appear yellow. Plaque and tartar can be removed by our dentist and hygienist. Visiting our hygienist at least once every six months also helps keep your teeth whiter as we professionally clean your teeth and remove superficial stains at the same time. If you avoid our dentist and hygienist then stain molecules continue to build up on the surface of your teeth until they are significantly yellow and cause embarrassment.
Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide
Teeth whitening Macleod is carried out using bleaching agents including hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide works by oxidising stain molecules which breaks them apart and lifts them off the enamel making them easy to brush away. Carbamide peroxide works differently from hydrogen peroxide. Carbamide peroxide is a combination of hydrogen peroxide and urea. It is also an oxidising agent and works on stains in the same way that hydrogen peroxide does. Carbamide peroxide works for up to 8 hours and can be used in products that are worn overnight. It is used in home treatment kits. Hydrogen peroxide is a lot quicker and works for up to an hour. It is used for teeth whitening at the dental practice.
Teeth whitening can be carried out on extrinsic stains which are caused by poor dental hygiene, food and drink, smoking and other similar environmental factors.
With good dental hygiene the results of teeth whitening can last from a year up to 3 years so make sure that you brush your teeth effectively at home and you visit our dental practice at least once every six months, including our hygienist to keep your teeth healthy, clean and white. Better lifestyle choices also influence how long your teeth remain white so find out about healthy eating and smoking cessation for healthier and whiter teeth.
Unfortunately, teeth whitening cannot be used for internal stains. Internal stains need to be covered up. Composite bonding and veneers are methods of addressing intrinsic stains as they are used to cover up the front surface of the teeth completely and therefore can hide the stains underneath. Speak to our dentist to find out what type of teeth whitening treatment is most suitable for you.
