Invisalign; common FAQs answered!
When you are an adult, having misaligned teeth can be problematic.
Especially if you have a job in areas like hospitality, giving motivational talks or even holding business meetings. Not only do misaligned teeth cause issues visually with your smile but they can also alter your speech patterns and make eating food more complicated. If you have severely misaligned teeth, you are also at a higher risk of common dental issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. Yikes!
If you have a mild to moderate case of dental misalignment, there is an option to straighten your teeth without the use of a fitted metal brace and that option is an invisible aligner.
At the Dental Retreat, we can offer suitable patients Invisalign Macleod which offers discretion, ease of use and an accelerated treatment time when compared to other orthodontic tools. In short, they are typically harder to spot, easier to use and achieve faster results!
But before you rush off to book an appointment with our team to discuss Invisalign Macleod, you may have some questions. In the following article, we aim to answer some common questions that we receive.
Who is suitable for invisible aligners?
To be suitable for Invisalign Macleod, you need to have a mild to moderate case of dental misalignment with the front 6 teeth on either the upper or lower jaw. If your molars are misaligned, you may need to wear a clear or metal brace.
You will also need to have good oral health and have no signs of tooth decay or gum disease before beginning treatment. It is also useful for us if you are over the age of 15; not because of the position of your teeth but just because people over this age group tend to be more committed to the treatment and will keep the aligners in!
How are they made?
The making of invisible aligners involves an intra-oral scan of your teeth being taken and the images being uploaded to computer software.
This software then predicts the movement that is needed to get your teeth into the desired position and a set of aligners are then printed using a 3D printer. For them to work correctly, these aligners have to be born in the correct order.
How do I care for them in daily life?
Invisible aligners are easy to care for in your daily life
To keep them clean, simply rinse them under a cold tap and remove any debris or staining with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Do not rinse them under hot water taps, as this can cause them to warp out of shape.
You will also need to keep them in the carry case provided when they’re not in your mouth to prevent them from becoming damaged in either your bag or your pockets.
Will I need to visit your team?
Yes, when wearing invisible aligners, you will need to see our team on average every 6 to 8-weeks. Each week, you need to take a selfie of your smile so we can assess if the aligners are working correctly.
How long will I need to wear them for?
Per day, you will need to wear the aligners for around 22 hours or as specified by our team.
Concerning treatment time, the average for wearing invisible aligners is between 3 and 6 months.
